And The Hail Came Down

June 12th 2016

After being less than 10 miles away from a tornado and not realizing it... Brian and I both have weather alerts turned onto our phones. It was a beautiful day and we both got alerts for a quick moving thunder storm coming to our area. I had the baby chicks outside in a little pen playing in the grass. We ran out and moved them into the shed. Right then we got another warning to expect hail. Our garden had just barely been planted 2 weeks earlier so there was no way it would survive hail. We got about 6 plants covered and then the hail hit. Brian and I ran to the shed but the kids were standing at the back door crying for us. We grabbed a flattened moving box and darted for the door. We still got hammered but the box protected our heads. :-)

A picture during the storm. The hail only lasted maybe 5 minutes but it came down hard and fast.

Adleigh came out with us to explore the damage.

Our neighbor's house got plastered with leaf bits from our tree. They were stuck so bad they had to get up on a ladder and use a tool to scrape them off.

The box we used to escape.

A picture of my poor garden. This was the garlic that the previous owner had planted. It had about two months of growing time and didn't survive. :-( The rest of my garden pretty much never recovered from the storm. Dang it.

Not pictured is the massive amount of hail damage that our truck sustained. We had our old car parked in the garage and totally didn't even think about moving the truck in. Whoops. The whole passenger side, the roof and part of the hood were covered in dents. We also found out a few weeks later that our roof of our home had been damaged as well.
Thank goodness for insurance!
