Austin at 3 Months Old

What smile? No way! Not when I have to concentrate on that camera in my face!

3 months
12 lbs, size 1 diapers and just moved into 3-6m clothing.

Much better month! Still a needy baby but we are figuring out what makes you happy and what makes you mad. Your schedule seems to be mostly figured out. You wake up between 8-9 eat, are super happy for a while and then get cranky and tired. Then you take several small naps during the day and generally go to sleep for the night around 9. Usually sleeping a long stretch until 6 am.

You still sleep swaddled and in the rock n play.

Your baby acne is back, probably because I haven’t been careful with dairy. You also have eczema or cradle cap pretty bad on your head. It gets worse when you bath.

Your hair is still red but definitely thinning except the area around your neck. It is very thick and makes you look like you have old man hair.

I’m pretty sure your eyes are turning brown. When the sun hits them just right I see brown around the pupils.

You spit up like a crazy man. Sometimes projectile, sometimes slow but a lot, sometimes thick sometimes thin. It’s so fun. I smell like barf a lot.

You definitely prefer Mom and you are really good at smiling at mom. It is so adorable! Especially your dimple. You will go to other people but mom is your favorite. And you only want mom when you are mad.

You still hate the car seat except when we are actually moving.

You don’t like the bouncer and tolerate the swing when you are in a good mood. You do sleep well in the swing though.

If you are in a good mood then you are happy to just be put on the floor on your back. Then you just lay there and wiggle.

You have gotten good at pulling your legs and butt up into the air.

You like to suck on your fist when you are hungry. Or mom’s finger for a tiny bit.

You had your first Thanksgiving, not that it was exciting since you couldn’t eat anything. You were happy all day since you were held almost the whole day.

Austin is 2 Months Old!

SUPER AUSTIN!

At 2 months old exactly you had your had Dr. Appt. You weighed 11lbs 13oz, were 23 inches long and 15.5 inch head.
Survived your shots really well. Screamed for a little bit and then was fine. Definitely slept more during the day but wasn’t fussy. I was super surprised! You are wearing 0-3m clothing and a size 1 diaper. Your hair is still an auburn red and seems to be getting thicker, not falling out... your eyes are still blue but I may have been seeing some tiny bits of brown, not 100% sure.
This past month was a little rough we couldn’t tell if you had reflux or a food aversion because you had bad gas, stuffy nose, projectile spit up and bad baby acne. You would wake up super cranky anywhere between 4am and 7am because you couldn’t breath. I gave you acid reflux medication and quit dairy and tomatoes. Not sure if that’s the problem or you were just sorting out your digestive issues.
You were only sleeping about 1.5 hours to 2 hours between feedings but a friend said to try the swaddle again. We started using a swaddle sack and since then you have been going at least 3 hours and sometimes more. A few times almost 8 hours!
Your gas and stuffy nose are gone but you still are spitting up like crazy. I am frequently covered in spit up and soaked at least once a day.
Baby acne seems to be finally clearing up, it got really bad for a couple weeks. You also are peeling on your face and scalp fairly badly.
You eat about every 2 hours during the day some times more frequently. Whenever you wake up from sleeping, even if it has only been an hour, you think you need to eat again. And when you are sleepy you also think you need to eat. Luckily you will occasionally take a binky to fall asleep. Or I have to walk you around until you calm down and then I can rock you to sleep in the orange recliner. Not the brown one.
You sleep at night in the rock n play until around 6am and then usually you ended up sleeping on my chest or arms. You take your naps in the swing but you aren’t a very good napper. Probably due to loud siblings/pestering siblings and you prefer to nap swaddled which doesn’t always happen.
You take excellent naps in the baby carrier so I can’t wear you a ton or you would sleep all day. Sometimes when we go on walks I specifically don’t wear you so that you will be awake for part of the walk.
You have found your voice and can coo and goo. It is the sweetest little sound, especially when you are begging for more food.
You love shadows and the fan. You totally smile at them. And if I am trying to get you to sleep and there are good shadows they totally distract you. Sometimes I’ll turn the light off and use my phone light to make shadows and you love to watch them.
Sometimes when you are being cranky if I just set you on your back on the floor it makes you happy. Really weird for my babies! Now tummy time is a different story. You are not a fan. You don’t try and move your head, you just lay there, cry and kick your legs. If I lay on the ground on the other side, sometimes you will lift up and move your head to look at me and then go back to crying.
Mom is definitely your favorite person to be with. You are ok with Adleigh holding you and sometime she can calm you down by bouncing you or walking you. She did trip once and drop/fall with you, that made you very very angry but you were fine.
You do not like being woken up. One day you were sleeping on me when Breydon woke up. I set you down and woke you up. Man you were pissed until you fell asleep an hour later.
When you think you need to nurse you start breathing rapidly through your nose. If that doesn’t get you food then you start doing the bird pecks an my shoulder.
You love baths as long as you are warm so I always have a wash cloth on your tummy and legs. You just hate getting out. And you really hate being lotioned.
You do not like when your siblings kiss you on your head. You are also super sensitive to pain, any tiny bonk makes you cry the same as when you are super mad.

Austin 1 Month Old

Our sweet little baby is one month old!
At 1 month old he weighs 10.1 lbs, in 0-3 month clothing and size 1 diapers.
On Sept 4th, he gave us some awake smiles!
On Sept 8th his umbilical cord fell off, took forever!
He doesn't eat on a schedule goes 1-3 hours depending on his mood.
Wakes every 2-3 hours to eat at night.
Does not like to side nurse, usually makes him super grunty.
Had a period where he was waking at 3-4am to 7-8am and being super grunty and wanting to nurse constantly. I stopped drinking milk hoping that would help him stop grunting so much and spitting up a ton.
Has baby acne but it's not really red so not super noticeable.
Still has lots of hair and it's still an auburn color. Still has some hair on his shoulders.
Eyes seem to be getting lighter blue.
Stork bite on back of neck and birthmark on right eye under the eyebrow, between his eye brows, small one on right eye lid and a little tiny one on his upper lip.
Puts up with tummy time pretty well but doesn't really do much moving until he gets mad.
Pretty strong neck, was able to throw his head around when hungry even in the hospital.
Liked being swaddled when he was first born, couldn't sleep without it but now loves stretching out his legs and arms.
He can grab things like your clothing when he is mad.
Will take a pacifier if you force him but he doesn't love it.
Pacifier makes him really mad if he wants to eat.
Still does the adorable little bird peck on your shoulder if he wants to eat.
Great burper.

Austin's Blessing Weekend

September 9th - 10th 2017

We decided to have Austin's blessing in Utah since it was more local for most people . Then not as many people would have to worry about finding a place to stay or drive 4 hours just to be there.

We got there Saturday and had lots of time to help Grandpa with his yard work. We were very surprised that Breydon got on the lawn mower.

Austin enjoyed some cuddles with Great Grandma.

Helping Grandpa pick tomatoes. Nothing like fresh garden tomatoes, yum!

We found a huge squash and Breydon loved it!

The squash was about the same size as Austin and probably weighed more.

Austin and I got to enjoy Great Grandpa's nice deep tub. He loved it!

Brian got spoiled and took my Dad and his friend Devry to the BYU vs Utah game. Not a good game to watch but he still had fun.

Austin and I watched the game from home, so not exciting.

I finally got the Freshly Picked Moccasins I had been coveting for years for his blessing outfit.

I just loved his little outfit! It was handmade by a girl I found on Instagram and so perfect!

Papaw had just come back from San Diego and Adleigh had requested a sea shell. They all got sea shells and were in heaven! They loved listening to the ocean.

We had a post blessing party at my Mikesell Grandparents house. Rick and Brian made Navajo Tacos and they were delicious!

Poor Uncle Bryan (ps google totally auto corrected that to Brian, told you his name was spelled the wrong way Beth ;-) was a hit and all the kids were attacking him.

The porch swing is always a favorite too!

Also this was the first time the Papaw got to meet Austin since he had to be in San Diego for work stuff.

We were lucky and lots of my extended family members were even able to make it out to the blessing!

Finally snagged Grandma Jan for a picture with Austin.

My parents had watched the solar eclipse with Beth and Bryan but the shirts my dad made didn't show up on time. So they took a picture and my kids HAD to be in it. Little goobers.
