The Desert Museum is a family favorite outside of Tucson near Saguaro National Park. The kids were getting stir crazy so we left the house and drove out!

My sisters and I always took pictures riding the javelina statues so clearly Adleigh needed a picture there as well.

Adleigh had a stroller but riding with Aaron is much more fun and he has better snacks.

Adleigh and Catherine with the snakes. There was an area where you could pet a live snake but Adleigh wasn't allowed to since she was under 2 years old. Lame.

Catherine, Adleigh and Seth watching the very FAT prairie dogs play.

There was an area that you could "mine" for rocks. They mix in random small pieces of quartz, fools gold, copper, etc into regular rocks. Adleigh liked just putting random rocks onto the table. Catherine understood the concept of finding pretty rocks.

Another part the kids could practice being archaeologists and dig out fossils. They provide safety googles, a very dull chisel and brushes.

I had more fun than Adleigh did. The actually put real fossils into the stone/cement and whoever chisels it out gets to keep it. Jon and I worked really hard on one but gave up after about 10 minutes because it was at least another 10 minutes before we got it out.

Not sure why I even bothered to bring the dang stroller, she barely rode in it! She was either pushing it or being carried. I was one tired momma after this trip.

We got lucky and the cougar was up close in the viewing area, normally he is really hard to see since his enclosure is really large. We watched him for a good 10 minutes.

Adleigh in the aviary that was seriously lacking in birds! We saw 4 mourning doves, two ducks and a dumb quail that was running the perimeter trying to escape.

The museum also has lots of cool nature walks. Obviously not too exciting for the kids but we hit a small one on the way out of the museum. I personally think that this type of desert is gorgeous! You just don't see plants like this anywhere else!

  1. Next time you come Adleigh will be old enough to pet that snake, AND you won't be pushing an empty stroller ;)
