Yesterday here at the Weirich house the election was not the number one thing on our minds. At around 12 we headed into our ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby bean!

So what do you think?

BOY?

Or

GIRL?

Can you tell from this picture? ;-)

    IT'S A GIRL!!!

If you are like all of Brian's family and most of my family then you are as shocked as they were.

Brian might have been the most shocked... I was shocked too but he really seemed dazed.

I'll give you some back ground on Brian's firm belief it was a boy. Brian's father as been 6 for 6 on guessing the gender of his grand babies. He's been telling us (even before we were married) that we would have 3 boys first. My mother-in-law even wanted to go shopping for boy clothes before the ultrasound because they were so sure! (When we called and told Brian's parents they didn't believe us. Lol.)

We had told the ultrasound tech that Brian's dad had never been wrong... so she went back and re-checked. Now we have two pictures of our babies girliness!

Now just for my journaling sake I'm gonna write about the other parts of the ultrasound. I think the coolest part was when the baby popped up in view you could see each individual rib! It was amazing! We also got to see all the arm bones and even the wrist bone. It's crazy how well formed she is at only .5lbs. We also saw a coronal cross section of her heart and could see all four of the chambers.

Another noteworthy thing was she was extremely lazy :-) We were lucky she was in the position where we could tell she was a girl. Because the tech was trying her hardest to get baby girl to flip for a better profile picture but NOPE all she wanted to do was wiggle. She also kept her legs semi crossed like a little lady the whole time :-)

I found her lazyness funny because I read online to drink caffeine before the gender ultrasound so the baby will be more active and move if it's hiding it's gender. I never ever drink caffeine because it works too well on me ( I literally did not sleep last night thanks to the 16oz of Crystal Lite Energy I drank yesterday... It wasn't even a huge amount of caffeine and I drank it at 10am.

Apparently baby girl is not affected by caffeine like I am... Or maybe she was in a caffeine induced stupor ;-)

So I was on the phone for about 6 hours yesterday talking to family. We can't talk on our phones in the house so I was walking around our property for 6 hours and completely exhausted by the end of the day!

Let's see... My dad, sister Beth and Aunt Pam are the only ones who thought it was a girl. My dad said he felt it all along but didn't want to burst Brian's boy bubble :-D
My mom only said girl because she was cursing me with "a girl just like you." It was also my mom's birthday yesterday but when I called she didn't even say hi, she said "boy or girl?" She stated her birthday fun would be shopping for the baby... Haha.

On a shopping note tangent...

When we walked into the doctors office we had to go over the insurance payment stuff. The receptionist said that it was a good thing our insurance paid so well since we were having a girl. We both corrected her and told her we didn't know the gender at that point. So she said "good, hope for a boy because girls are 10x more expensive due to their dresses, shoes, bows etc". So now my husband is paranoid about our expensive baby girl :-)

I'll admit I have already bought a cute dress with a matching bow. I found it with my friend Emily a few weeks ago and it was such a good deal. Originally $80 on sale for $14! I figured I just give it to Em's little girl if we had a boy...

Isn't it a cute dress?

Let's see... As for the name we have one we like best but we aren't sure if it's a name she can grow up into and be a professional woman. For example we both liked Sadie and its a cute girl name but we kind of feel like Sadie is more a stripper name as an adult... Lol!

Any suggestions are welcome the main rules are no gender neutral names and we want a less common name (not super crazy out there but not a name where six girls in your class have it too).

18th Week Updates

I gained 2 pounds since my appointment two weeks ago. Which they say is normal right now but should slow down. I do still fit into my favorite capris :-) Unfortunately most of my shirts were form fitting to begin with so now they make me look chubby but maternity shirts still drown me. It takes way more effort to get ready now.

Last week I had my first real encounter with a food that my body no longer likes... Wendy's spicy chicken nuggets. I love them but I was up sick ALL night after those. I've also discovered anything super tomato based gives me heart burn i.e. spaghetti sauce, chili, enchiladas and pizza. My heartburn isn't painful but annoying because I can feel it in the bottom of my esophagus, yuck.

I still haven't officially felt her move. Sometimes I think I might have felt something but it never repeats itself and could have been a little muscle twitch... The doctor said it could be up to week 22 before I can really tell.

Oh we are finally telling our Church Branch this weekend. Our Branch President already knows because he and Brian are buddy buddy but it will be nice to not have to suck it in all of church ;-)

18 week belly shot. You can kind of see the bump. :-) I really need to have Brian start taking these because I can't take a good self shot that includes my face!
