Living out in the country does have a few downsides... for example we have to drive at least 45 minutes to get to a city that has a decent grocery store, restaurants, and movie theaters.

There are some upsides as well... cute little wards, you can walk just about anywhere and super easy access to wilderness areas.

Yesterday we discovered another perk of living in the country, friendly neighborhood visitors :-)

We invited our friends, James and Emily over for dinner. ( I actually cooked... a good meal... for seven people... crazy!) After dinner James and Emily were headed back out to the car to go change into their running clothes. We have been going on nightly runs together.

All of a sudden we heard screaming and Dave started yelling for Brian and Matt to come outside. We ran outside as fast as we could and saw quite the sight!

Our friendly neighborhood visitor was...
A mountain lion!

Emily walked outside to go to her car and the mountain lion trotted right past her! It was literally 15 feet away from her. She luckily was able to run back to the house and the lion ran down a little bit further and sat down in the grass.

We of course all went out and watched it for a while. Besides the our group of seven, I think about 4 more cars of people showed up to watch it. Words travels fast in a small town. :-)

It was super pretty!

You can kind of see the lion in the picture with us.

Eventually we scared it a bit

And it started to walked away

Brian and Matt started following it so it started running away

Brian, Matt and I all followed it for a while. I gave up here but the boys kept going.

Eventually, due to the fact that the mosquitoes were on the attack, the boys left the lion alone and came back.

It was a pretty cool experience! I was a little nervous about running around town that night due to the lion being on the loose. We still went anyway and had no issues with our friendly neighborhood visitor :-)
