November 26th -28th 2015

Our original plan was to leave from Texas on the morning of the 27th and drive hopefully straight through the night to Wyoming. Brian's parents were coming with us to help drive since we had to drive our new truck and the moving truck. However we consulted the weatherman and realized there was a massive winter storm coming through Texas the night of the 26th. So we decided to leave right after Thanksgiving Lunch to try and get out of Texas before it got too cold. Yeah... thanks to the stupid, slow, gas guzzling moving van (we could only go 200 miles on a tank), we ended up in North Texas right as the storm hit. We tried to push through but the dang apple gps took us on a crazy route that sent us on this very seldom used backroad that was pure ice due to lack of drivers. It took us an hour to go 40 miles into the next town. So at 1am we finally called it quits and got a hotel.

So much for sleeping! Breydon was not tired when we pulled him out of the car!

The view the next day as we were leaving the hotel, our antenna was pure ice! But the ice was the least of our problems. We made it about another two hours and barely got into Colorado when the other tire on our tire dolly went flat. :-( We had to drive by a really bad accident and some metal from the truck got into the tire. So we pulled off at some local diner and waited for over two hours for the tire to get fixed. Thank goodness we had bought the insurance on the moving stuff!

Finally on the road again! The kids enjoyed the break, ha!

Yup, that is pure ice. It took about a week before that all melted off.

Breydon started to get pretty hysterical so we brought him up into the front to try and entertain him. It worked for a while.

Not the best picture but it says 6 degrees. Brr! So we had another hiccup that day. I had switched to using Google maps to direct our driving. As we were driving outside of Denver, it switched to driving us a different route that was going to skip Cheyenne and and take us to Laramie. I wanted to take it but was out voted and we continued onto Cheyenne. Turns out there was a tiny but crazy storm just on I-80 between Cheyenne and Laramie so we were driving 40 mph or less. That drive normally take less than an hour but took us close to two. It caused us to get into Green River way too late to be able to get into our new home. So my lovely Dad rented us a hotel room in Green River which was wonderful since we would have had to unpack our whole moving truck to get to our mattresses. Thanks Dad!

The view from our hotel window was pretty cool!

We finally made it to our new home!!! A drive that should have taken us 18 hours or less ended up with 24 hours of driving time and 48 hours on the road. Fun times!
